African Queen

One of my absolute favorite models, Liya Kebede had a fashion spread in Sunday’s T:Style Magazine in the New York Times featuring clothes inspired by traditional African dress. Just caught the photos now and absolutely loved them. Shot by Paolo Riversi, these have such gorgeous color and styling… of course she looks absolutely stunning. (And I wish I could find more of Riversi’s work online past the cursory Google search!) Anyway, see the whole slide show here.

So beautiful! I especially love her in the Christian Lacroix cotton dress-the blue is so incredibly stunning on Liya.

Thank you Sonya! New York Times had credited his name as “Riversi” … thank you for the correction!

Oh, Liya’s one of my favorites too. Not only is she beautiful, but she’s graceful and somehow elegant as well. Wonderful photos.

As an African and a student of design, I’m amused by these lovely but disturbingly ironic interpretations of “African” dress by European designers. Thanks for sharing.
