Hermès Bangles

Just got a lovely email from Hermès promoting rock n’ roll chic with their wonderful enameled bangles in a bold and beautiful typographic print. Love the stuff from them, always.

Enamel bracelets in silver and palladium plated. $570 and $440.

United 93

I saw the film, United 93 yesterday morning. I felt that it was very well done and although it still is a very sensitive recent event for many Americans, I urge everyone to see it. I keep thinking about it and cannot find the words to tell you all about this movie… Gripping. Powerful. Heartfelt. Paul Greengrass has made a film unlike any other. The film is largely unscripted and many of the personnel from the FAA and the US military who were working on September 11th are in the film, playing themselves. The families of the victims of the flights gave consent for the movie to be made and extensive research was done to find out as many details about each passenger, down to their clothing and what they may have been reading that day. Many of the flight attendants and the pilots are actual working attendants and pilots. The movie itself has not left my mind and thought I’d post it here today.

Edit: I read a wonderful review in today’s New York Magazine by David Edelstein.

Check in for Flight 93 at Newark International Airport.

Deepa Mehta’s “Water”

Despite major roadblocks in production, Deepa Mehta’s Water is completed and slated for release in theatres this month. The story is about Hindu widows who live together in a “Widow House” in Varanasi during the time of Gandhi’s liberation of India. Widespread protests erupted in India, almost halting the filming of the production. Undeterred, filming was completed in Sri Lanka. So excited to see this.

Swati Argade

Swati Argade is a trained dancer in Indian Classical Dance (holler!) and started out designing her own costumes, keeping in mind comfort and ease of movement. Her clothes are not fussy and the fabrics and cuts look so soft and comfortable. Totally feeling the trench coat. Then again, you know I’m a sucker for a good trench.

Sunny and unfussy.

April Reed Cakes

My friend is getting married so I’ve been on the lookout for fun things that are wedding-related. Today’s Daily Candy introduced me to April Reed‘s cakes. So lovely and modern looking. I love the ribbon detailing and the color choices.

Oh, so lovely. April's cakes look so wonderful.

Let There Be Light!

I’m sick of my touchlights in a constant state of droopiness and dimness. Sylvania’s Dot It lights are an attractive update to the touchlights we all seem to have in our closets and under cabinets. These lights turn on with a press to the center, are super bright thanks to the strong LEDs, run on AAA batteries and last for 100 hours. The lights come backed with 3M adhesive that’s reusable so you can stick them to virtually anything. They’re available in many colors and you can buy them right here on Amazon.

Bright touch lights! $10 for one or a 3-pack for $27 on Amazon.com.
