Ross MacDonald

Ross’ work is gorgeously retro. I love the line quality in his illustrations and his color choices. Great letterpressed work and childrens’ book illustration. Funny website, too.

Hello! Lucky!

Lots of sweetly illustrated cards for various occasions such as new babies and moving announcements. Hello!Lucky also designed the fantastic Japanese pop invites featured in Martha Stewwart Weddings this season.

Lillian Bassman

Lillian Bassman is a fashion illustrator-turned-fashion photographer. She worked quite closely with Alexey Brodovich at Harper’s Bazaar from the 1940s to the 1960s. Her work is defined by a very painterly style. One of my all-time favorites.

Bird Lady Anneliese Seubert, German Vogue 2000. Wonders of Water Harper's Bazaar, New York 1959.

Carrot & Stick Press

Carrot & Stick Press offers letterpressed cards in classic motifs such as polka dots and stripes but also offbeat prints suck as little lobsters and flamingos. The small notebooks are printed with a label plate on the front. Would be super cute as favors/placecards at place setting at a baby or bridal shower.

Various foldover notes, 8 notes/$16. Notebooks, $5 each.

Darren Waterston

“I am interested in exploring early painting materials, techniques, and references in a contemporary context. Meticulously rendered plant life, birds, and moths are subjected to scab-like markings, smudges, drips, and viscous glazes. The resulting image is intended as a complex layering of opposing forces, idealized and scarred, beautiful and unsettling.” – Darren Waterston
