April Reed Cakes

My friend is getting married so I’ve been on the lookout for fun things that are wedding-related. Today’s Daily Candy introduced me to April Reed‘s cakes. So lovely and modern looking. I love the ribbon detailing and the color choices.

Oh, so lovely. April's cakes look so wonderful.

Let There Be Light!

I’m sick of my touchlights in a constant state of droopiness and dimness. Sylvania’s Dot It lights are an attractive update to the touchlights we all seem to have in our closets and under cabinets. These lights turn on with a press to the center, are super bright thanks to the strong LEDs, run on AAA batteries and last for 100 hours. The lights come backed with 3M adhesive that’s reusable so you can stick them to virtually anything. They’re available in many colors and you can buy them right here on Amazon.

Bright touch lights! $10 for one or a 3-pack for $27 on Amazon.com.

Hugo Dalton

Hugo Dalton‘s wall drawings are so beautiful that I had to post them before I started work today. (Yes, I am in…) Great line work and great use of white space. Reminds me of the continuous line drawings we had to complete in studio. Very delicate.

Oh, Shahrukh!

After watching Spike Lee’s Inside Man last weekend (great movie) I have been listening to the track which opened and closed the film. The track, Chaiyya Chaiyya, is from the 1998 Hindi movie Dil Se and was one of the many soundtracks I have memorized by heart due to my parents’ undying love of Hindi filmi music. I have not been able to stop listening to the song all week and thought I’d post it here if anyone saw the movie and wanted the song. I have made the original 1998 version available for 48 hours here. Click the image above to watch the sequence in the movie where the song was sung. On top of a moving train. Yeah. Bollywood.

Gotta love choreographed dance numbers on the top of a moving train.

Josie Morway

I normally don’t like pictures of birds (a personal phobia) but the work of Josie Morway literally blew me away. The level of detail she achieves in the feathers is truly awe inspiring. I got wind of her work from the absolutely fabulous Tiny Showcase. This week’s print will feature Ms. Morway’s painting, And the protein goes straight to my head, shown in detail above. (click the pic above to see the full painting) Watch for it!

Detail from Josie's painting And the protein goes straight to my head, a limited edition print of this painting will premiere on Tiny Showcase tonight.

Lunch at Noon

I have decided to try to learn how to cook. Sites like the aformentioned Delicious Days and services in New York like FreshDirect will no doubt help. As I was planning the meals for the week, I remembered the fabulous Lunch at Noon, a recipe site from the good people of Noon Design. The site is broken up into courses and the food looks so delicious and simple to make. Love the layouts and the food photography and I enjoy the little fun fact information under each picture about the history of certain ingredients. Love.

Great layouts and food photography.
