Love the mix of prints and vibrant color. What’s even better is that each piece is made from vintage Kenyan kangas. Suno designer Max Osterweis has been collecting Kenyan kangas for some time and began making these pieces from the vintage cloth. Each piece is produced in Kenya by Kenyan artisans in small shops based on designs originating in New York. The result is a collection of 1000 unique and individually numbered pieces. According to the Pipeline, the range for this collection is $95-$595 and will be available at Opening Ceremony in NYC and LA.

(Clogh designed a book which he hid in a wall panel to help the family through the scavenger hunt.)

I am totally in awe of the architect whose work is profiled in the New York Times today.

Architect Eric Clough was commissioned by a family to redesign their apartment. The father, Mr. Klinsky suggested the architect hide a poem he had written to his family in the walls of the apartment. This idea sparked a project that involved noted sculptors and writers to design an elaborate scavenger hunt in the apartment for the family of six to do together.

Such an amazing story with such intricate and elaborate details. Door knockers designed to come off doors, fit together to form a crank which opens a hidden compartment in a wall. Keys hidden in cubbies behind artwork which fit together to form magnetized cubes which open a series of panels which reveal the poem the father wrote for his family. Radiator grilles in each of the childrens’ bedrooms laser cut with a coded poem to each child. Amazing stuff. Read the article! Be sure to check out the slideshow as well.

(Shepard Fairey, interior of 11 Spring Street. (photo from Gothamist))

After two months of work, the Wooster Collective‘s 11 Spring Street project opens to the public today at 11am featuring artwork from the best street artists in the world including Shepard Fairey, Swoon, WK, and Lady Pink.

11 Spring Street, a former carriage house, has been over the years a revolving showcase of street artists from both New York and the world. The building was recently sold to make way for new condominiums and many thought the sale would mark the end of the progression of the ever-changing urban canvas. The new owners, development group Elias Cummings, wished to give proper tribute to the art and artists that graced the walls of the building and contacted the established Wooster Collective to help organize a proper farewell. The Collective in turn invited the best street artists in the world to come and mark the walls on the interior and exterior for one last time.

The preview photos from the Collective and Gothamist look amazing. Definitely will be checking this out this weekend. The building (at Elizabeth and Spring) is open to the public beginning today at 11am until Sunday at 5pm after which the new owners’ contracters will move in and begin renovations for the new condos.
