Murals from the public arts project "A Love Letter For You."

Again, I’m so late to the game but I love this public arts project in West Philadelphia. Artist Stephen Powers (a.k.a. ESPO) painted murals above the SEPTA line along Market Street from 63rd to 45th in a public arts project called “A Love Letter For You.” Each mural reads as a love story to West Philly from residents of the neighborhood.

The typography is so beautiful and I love how some are very site specific. (Like “I’ll Shape Up” on the side of a building that houses a barber shop.) See all 50 murals on the official site gallery. (via Pixels & Arrows)

Cardon Copy

Jordan posted today about her friend Cardon Webb whose exhibition, Cardon Copy, is at the Type Directors Club right now in NYC. I loved the typography so much… I also noticed that some of the posters seem to be from my neighborhood in Queens!

From his mission statement: “Cardon Copy, takes the vernacular of self-distributed fliers and tear-offs we have all seen in our neighborhoods. It involves hijacking these unconsidered fliers and redesigning them, over powering their message with a new visual language. I then replace the original with the redesign in its authentic environment.”

Hunt and Gather Gocco 5 (phone), framed $85, unframed $55. Hunt and Gather Gocco 2 (perfume), framed $45, unframed $20. Both prints are signed and numbered limited edition multi-colour gocco prints with metallic ink in editions of 30.

Love the retro illustrations from Lab Partners in San Francisco. The limited-edition prints above are from their exhibition at the Outré Gallery called “Hunt and Gather.”

Attended the Biennial at the Whitney last night and saw a few artists that I absolutely loved. The first of which is James Welling. We actually had his book in the office a few months ago. His Torso series is exhibited in the Biennial but I knew him from the flower series seen above. Gorgeous color, love the graphic composition.

Something would be seriously remiss if I didn’t mention the work of photographer Rodney Smith. Lately, I’ve seen it popping up all over the place. This work is some of the best I’ve seen in a very long time.
