Love these bangles made of fossilized mammoth tusk by jewelry designer Jessica Kagan Cushman. The tusk was recently uncovered and carved and is approximately 10,000 years old. Each one-of-a-kind bangle is inscribed with a phrase using the scrimshaw technique. (via Fashionista.)

February 14th, 2007scrimshaw epitomizes valentine’s day! there is an incredible collection of scrimshaw at the whaling museum on nantucket, and well worth a visit. it’s amazing to think of the many hours whalers spent creating beautiful things for their lady friends on dry land!
