Jessica Kagan Cushman Bangles

Love these bangles made of fossilized mammoth tusk by jewelry designer Jessica Kagan Cushman. The tusk was recently uncovered and carved and is approximately 10,000 years old. Each one-of-a-kind bangle is inscribed with a phrase using the scrimshaw technique. (via Fashionista.)

Wide Scrimshaw Phrase Bangle, $1,250 at Barney's New York.

scrimshaw epitomizes valentine’s day! there is an incredible collection of scrimshaw at the whaling museum on nantucket, and well worth a visit. it’s amazing to think of the many hours whalers spent creating beautiful things for their lady friends on dry land!
